-
- : I've called tech support at both companies, and although it took a while, Oregon

-
- : I've told the ZipTools to use ExpXDS.device, and tried just about any number of the little

-
- : What I need from someone with a similar setup is this... Where in the startup-sequence

- : telling it to use the ExpXDS.device, and the correct unit number). PLEASE HELP ME!
-
- : My other option is merely to buy some other SCSI adapter (SQUIRREL, or see If I can get
- : a SCSI header for my expansion board) suggestions?
-
- I've got the Scsi+ adapter for my 1200 and a Zip drive and they work fine
- (although slow). Ok, if you're using the mountfile that came with
- Squirrel Zip Tools then all you needed to do with that is change the
- device and unit number (which you've done) and drop it in your devs:
- dosdrivers drawer. As for the Scsi+ commands, in my startup-sequence
- they come right after the "BindDrivers" command. First there's "SCSIPlus
- >NIL:", which you need. Then there's "DFMount 2 3 4 5 6" which doesn't
- recognize my Zip either and the only other Scsi device I have right now
- is a CD-Rom drive, so I took that command out of my startup-sequence. It
- and the formatting software only really seem to be of use with real
- non-removable harddrives. Finally, there's the "Run >NIL: CheckDC" line
- which will check drive named after the CheckDC part (in your case ZIP0:)
- to see if the disk has been removed or replaced. I personally don't use
- that either because it won't recognize a disk if it was in the drive when
- you boot (you have to remove the disk and replace it again). I just use
- the diskchange command. Anyway, if that's all setup right then all you
- need to do is put in a disk and format it. And since the disk won't show
- up until you format it you'll need to format it from the shell or use the
- Format command in the System drawer. I don't have Zip Tools, so I don't
- know what all that does. Everything should work ok now, though. If not
- e-mail me and I'll see if I can help some more.
-
- All in all the hardware part of the package isn't bad, just slow. It's
- the software that they really screwed up on. But until I can afford an
- '030/SCSI trapdoor combo like the blizzard, I'll be sticking with this
- since I hear the Squirrel eats a lot of CPU time.
